CREDIT SECRET When you return merchandise to a store you can insist oncash - not credit - if you've paid by credit card, it's your legal right. The store doesn't want you to know this, they would rather you feel obligated to return to the store soon to use your credit card. But if the store is being uncooperative, write a letter to your credit card company asking for a refund. They should respond in about 30 days. __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ POSTAL SECRET Where the heck is that package? You spent your time and money finding the perfect gift for a special loved one who lives far away. You even get it in the mail on time! But your perfect gift never gets there. Does the post office eat packages? It seems very frustrating, but it doesn't have to be. The post office actually has three places for missing packages - Atlanta, Ga., St. Paul, Minn., and San Francisco, Calif. Your missing package will be sent to whichever of these sites is closest. If your mail has no postage, an incorrect delivery address and no return address, the post office has no choice but to sent it to one of the mail recovery stations. When the package arrives at the recovery station it is opened, first to try to find an address, if that is unsuccessful they inventory the contents, and input the information on a computer. They hold the package for at least 90 days for regular mail, 6 months for Express Mail and 1 year for registered or insured mail. To try to find the whereabouts of your package you can visit the post office that the package was mailed from and complete form 1510. The post office will do the rest for you. You can even call the post office and have them complete this form for you. So remember, if you don't receive a thank you card or call, be sure to inquire. Whatever your preference, tea contains compounds known as flavonoids that studies have indicated may confer such health benefits as reduced risk of heart disease. A study in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition says laboratory tests suggest the tea flavonoids have antioxidant properties that may have protective prop- erties against coronary heart disease and some other ail- ments. “It is concluded that maximum antioxidant capacity and hence maximal health benefit may be derived from green tea or from black leaf tea prepared by infusion with water at 90 degrees Centigrade for up to two minutes,” said study author Simon Langley-Evans of University College Northampton in England. Black tea prepared in tea bags had lower antioxidant capacity than black leaf teas, the study indicated. “Tea has become the new superfood,” said Gary Shinner, chief executive officer and co-founder of Mighty Leaf Tea, a Sausalito, Calif., marketer of whole-leaf teas. “Studies over the years have shown that green and black teas are among the richest sources of antioxidants ever discovered. Tea offers a broad range of health benefits, from anti- cancer protection to cardiovascular health.”
HEALTH SECRET FOOT ODOR Blame it on heat and moisture. Feet are loaded with sweat glands, which are especially active when you wear shoes all day. It's an ideal environment for odor-causing bacteria and yeast. Quick fixes: Change socks twice a day. This will keep your feet dry, making them less hospitable to germs. Also let shoes air out for at least 24 hours between wearings. If you can't wait that long, dry the insides with a hair dryer. Helpful: Rub your feet with a pumice stone twice a week to remove dead skin, which absorbs moisture and provides a favorable environment for germs. This is easiest to do in the shower. Pumice stones are sold in drugstores. Best: Soak your feet in a tub filled with tea. Brew two tea bags and about a half quart of water and pour into a basin of containing about a gallon of cold water. Soak your feet while you read or watch TV for about 30 minutes every night for about two weeks. Repeat as needed. The tannin or tannic acid in the tea will shrink your sweat glands and help to close your pores. Tannin is the same thing used to tan hides and will do nearly the same thing to your feet. __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ __/ GAMBLING SECRET SPLIT 'EM, IF YOU GOT 'EM Splitting pairs in Blackjack is not an automatic play. The only two pairs that should always be split are aces and eights. The reason you want to split aces is because aces are strong cards. Most casinos will only give you one card on each ace when you split them. Splitting eights is quite different. The reason for splitting eights is twofold: 1. Sixteen is the weakest hand you can have 2. If you split the eights and get a two or a three, you can still "hit" to make a strong hand. If you get a ten, which is more likely, 18 is the "break even" hand in Blackjack. You’ll get a better sense of what you can offer the business, and you’re likely to meet people who can set up an interview -- in some cases that same day. In interviews, make it clear that you know the company. Ask questions that demonstrate your knowledge, such as inquiring about new products, the latest marketing strategy or plans for expansion (or contraction). Use research to find out about challenges facing the company. In interviews, describe yourself as someone whose skills and experience can help the company meet those challenges. Examples: “I know that your effort to improve quality requires working with many types of people. As you can see from my background, I have just the kind of people skills that would be useful.” In this way, you demonstrate your knowledge of the company and how the company can benefit from hiring you. The vast majority of today’s job applicants won’t use this strategy. Be sure to arrive on time. A surprising number of new job candidates ruin their chances by showing up late for interviews. Helpful: Think of an interviews as a date. If you have a date that doesn’t talk much, it’s easy to get the impression that there’s something to hide. General rule: Talk half the time and let the interviewer speak the other half. That ratio helps promote a genuine exchange of information. When they naturally demand proof, pull out a handful of pennies and ask them to pick one. You then announce that you will spin the penny and make it land on tails, not once, but consistently. I'm not sure what the odds are against that, but they are pretty high. According to the odds, it has a fifty percent chance of coming up either heads or tails, right? If you spin it ten times, it should land on heads about five times right? Wrong. As long as you use a very new penny, and spin it on a very flat, smooth surface like Formica or glass, it will come up tails at least nine out of ten times. Be sure that the penny has no nicks or cuts etc.,, in it. If your victim thinks that you have a trick penny, ask for one of theirs. As long as it's shiny and new. You can explain that a dull colored penny seems to have a negative effect on your powers, that you need or prefer a nice shiny one. If they don't have a newer penny, borrow one from someone else. You can always explain that "This penny just doesn't feel right." If it's not a new one.
