MORE EVIDENCE ON COD LIVER OIL CURING ARTHRITIS
Scientists at Cardiff University, in Wales, have confirmed
what thousands of people with arthritis have believed for
years -- cod liver oil is effective in treating joint pain
and can slow, even reverse, the destruction of joint carti-
lage.
Cartilage is the "gristle" that cushions bones and
prevents them from grinding against each other. Omega-3
fatty acids in cod liver oil work by switching off the
aggrecan- and collagen-degrading enzymes that break down
joint cartilage. This slows the progress of cartilage des-
truction that occurs in arthritis, reduces inflammation and
thus lessens pain.
"Our most recent work shows that by
exposing human osteoarthritic cartilage to cod liver oil in
the laboratory for just 24 hours we can turn off, or
reverse, the action of the degradative enzymes and in-
flammatory factors affecting the tissue," says Professor
Bruce Caterson. "Our findings are consistent with advice
that taking cod liver oil in early adulthood could prevent
the onset of osteoarthritis and would reduce the harmful
symptoms associated with the disease."

COMPUTER "SCAM" OR SELF DEFENSE SECRET
The 809 phone scam, with the help of the internet, is still
thriving. Do you know about it?
Here's the deal... you get an urgent message by e-mail,
phone, or pager to immediately call or fax a telephone
number in the "809" area code. The message seems personal
in nature (maybe someone you know has been arrested, died,
got a job, or won a prize).
The problem is the 809 area code is an international call
(in the Caribbean) and it's usually linked to a pay-per-call
service... billed directly to your phone bill.
"But wait... there's more!"
Even if you block your phone from 900 numbers, these calls
get through.
Unlike calls placed within the United States, it's very
difficult to reverse the charge because you have to deal
with an international phone company not regulated by US
laws.

Put a dollar bill THROUGH a lime?
No way . . .
Way.
Shove a dollar bill through a lime. Sounds impossible,
doesn't it? This one will get their attention.
You take a dollar bill (it helps if the bill isn't too old),
and roll it tightly into a conical shape, making a sharp
point at one end.
Start it small and keep it as tight as you can so that the
bill looks like a dart. You then press the bill into the
side of the lime and twist the bill in the same direction
that you rolled it, so that it gets even tighter as you twist..
Your audience will be amazed as the bill penetrates the lime
deeper and deeper until it comes out the other side.
Don't try to rush it, this trick takes a little time but is
well worth the effort and patience.

counter and prescription treatments available for acne. The
American Academy of Dermatologists sums them up as follows:
Many non-prescription acne lotions and creams help milder
cases of acne. However, many will also make your skin dry if
used too often. Your dermatologist may prescribe topical
creams, gels or lotions with vitamin A acid or benzoyl
peroxide to help unblock the pores and reduce bacteria.
Again, these products may cause some drying and peeling.
Antibiotics taken by mouth such as tetracycline,
doxycycline, minocycline or erythromycin are often
prescribed for moderate or severe cases, especially when
there is a lot of acne on the back or chest. Antibiotics
reduce the bacteria in the follicle and may also decrease
the skin redness directly. There are also antibiotics that
are applied to the skin. These are used in less severe cases
of acne.
Another oral medication, isotretinoin is sometimes used for
severe acne that has not responded to other treatments.
